Current Projects

Our current focus is the showcasing of the housing system to our local community, and all interested parties.

The housing is flat-pack, economical and the steel frame and roof are easy to erect quickly. Connection to services and fit out takes a little longer, but it is anticipated that 15-20 houses could be built in a few months once the land and appropriate approvals have been obtained. Residents would have secure and affordable housing, with support, until more permanent options become available to them.

Knowing that this form of manufactured housing is unknown and untried in the Australian context, we have built two display units, one with one bedroom and one with two bedrooms, on the property of the Caloundra Salvation Army. The units are located temporarily on this property, are not connected to services, and will not have residents living in them. They are a "proof of concept”, and we hope will attract interest from all levels of government, from potential donors and also referral agencies.

Funding for the units has come from several local churches, supportive individuals and two grants from the Sunshine Coast Council. The Salvation Army has loaned furniture for the duration of the display. Many, many volunteer hours have gone into the construction and fit out of the units. They will be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere to form the first two houses in our community.

The rationale behind our project is that a caring community needs to support those more vulnerable and give a helping hand up where possible. We know that the issues surrounding homelessness are varied and complex, but that the first and most vital component to recovery from such trauma is safe and secure housing.

The second major feature of our vision is the matching of each resident with a community mentor, who will support and be someone who walks alongside them in order to achieve their goals. Such friendship and encouragement can be significant in reducing the stress of navigating various government entities in the search for housing security.

Community Comedy Night In Support of Roofs to Recovery

All of us need a good belly laugh from time to time!

So join us for an evening of comedy at the Power Boat Club on Saturday, 20 July. Doors open at 6.30 pm and the show starts at 7.00 pm.

The cost per ticket is $35.

The program features comedians from the Sydney and Melbourne International Comedy Festival. There are lucky door prizes, and we'd love you to come prepared for a silent auction.

Why not make a night of it? The Power Boat Club offers dinner from 5.00 pm (not included in the ticket price).

Funds raised on the evening will be allocated to the capital account of Roofs to Recovery towards establishing a community of transitional housing for women over 55 on the Sunshine Coast.
