About Us

We’re a team of locals working together to make a difference for our community and the people who need our help.

In late 2021 a series of 3 forums were held in Caloundra, hosted jointly by the Sunshine Coast Council and the Caloundra City Pastors’ Network. The purpose was to explore possible ways that the church communities of the area might be able to support local residents who were experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Roofs to Recovery grew out of those meetings and has now grown to a team of 12 members. We are a registered charity with the ACNC and have been granted tax deductibility by the ATO.

Present at those early forums were the designer and engineer of a modular housing system, manufactured in Australia, which had previously been used in a simple form in overseas disaster recovery situations. This form of housing offers a quick and economical solution to the immediate need for accommodation.

Our vision is to build a community of transitional housing, first of all for women over 55 years. The same idea could also be applied to other groups - young people, single men, families. We are excited by the possibility that this vision could grow in size and extent to offer housing to many different groups and in many different places, thus easing the pain and trauma of living without a home.
